In 2011, a new educational video was created for Aboriginal patients with the diabetic complication, diabetic retinopathy. This short animated video clip aims to highlight important patient information about diabetes and its effects on the eye as well as the impor-tance of getting a retinal photograph taken every year. The video has been made with diabetic retinopathy screening in mind. The main purpose of the video is for it to be used as an add-on tool in the routine diabetic retinopathy screening process. Patients coming to get a retinal pho-tograph taken can benefit. The video is an educational tool that can be shown before the retinal photograph is taken, and it is hoped that it will help patients understand more about their condition as well as the reason that they are getting the photograph taken. Some patients, especially from populations with little exposure to clinical settings, may feel anxiety towards the process. The video aims to address these issues and promote the importance of retinal screening. It is hoped that the video will eventually be shown in all screening centres catering to Indigenous Australians.
