Purpose: To evaluate visual performance of patients implanted with a small aperture extended depth of focus intraocular (IOL).
Methods: The IC-8 IOL is a hydrophobic acrylic IOL with a centrally located opaque annular mask measuring 3.23 mm in total diameter with a 1.36 mm central aperture.
A retrospective chart review of 15 patients with a mean age of 69.6 + 7.7 years was undertaken and their monocular uncorrected distance and near visual acuity (UCDVA, UCNVA) analysed.
Results: At 3 months, 93.3% of patients were 6/9 or better UCDVA in their IC-8 eye. 67% of the IC-8- eyes achieved N6 or better UCNVA. UCDVA of at least 6/9 or better is obtained even with a pre-op corneal astigmatism up to 1.04D. Conclusion: Implantation of a small aperture IOL provides patients with good simultaneous near and far visual acuity, even in the presence of clinically signiftcant corneal astigmatism.
