Proptosis in the newborn is relatively infrequent. Aetiologies include benign and malignant tumours, orbital malformations, central nervous system abnormalities including encephalocele, vascular malformations and thyrotoxicosis. Subperiosteal retroorbital haematoma appears to be a rare entity. We present two infants and review previously reported cases.
