Session Title: Cataract

Session Time: 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Purpose: To study visual outcomes after bilateral implantation of AcrySof IQ ReSTOR multifocal intraocular lens (MFIOL) of two different near adds.

Methods: In this prospective clinical study, bilateral implantation of AcrySof IQ ReSTOR MFIOL  was done in 20 eyes of 10 patients. Target refraction was emmetropia in both the eyes. The distance dominant eye received 2.5D add (Model-SV25T0) and the nondominant eye received 3.0 add (Model – SN6AD1). Binocular eye examination followed 1 and 3 months after second eye surgery. Subjective refraction (SR), Defocus Curve (DC) and Contrast Sensitivity (CS) were evaluated.

Results: Mean binocular UDVA of 0.04 logMAR was achieved at the end of 3 months. Binocular distance corrected near (30 cm) and intermediate [50 cm] visual acuity of N6 or better was achieved in all the 10 (100%) patients and 8 out of 10 (80%) patients respectively. Binocular UDVA of all 10 patients was 6/9 or better. Spherical equivalent of .38 D or less was achieved in 19 eyes out of 20 (95% eyes). Defocus of 0.2 logMAR units or better was maintained from +1.0D to -1.0D in 7 out of 10 (70%) patients. Another peak of visual acuity better than 0.2 logMAR units on defocus curve was achieved in -2.0 to -3.0 D range in 6 out of 10 (60%) patients.

Conclusions: Bilateral implantation of AcrySof IQ ReSTOR MFIOL of two different near adds provide excellent visual outcomes for near, intermediate and distance visual acuity with high level of spectacle independence for the patients.
